- One community service and Bring positive impact on the community in honor of Raj
Operating Mechanism
- At least one event per semester with all of Raj Scholars
- Active usage of Facebook page for this community
- One community service event each school year
Expectations from the Scholars:
- Attend 2 charity events (Fall/Winter)
- One planned by the Senior class, one by the Junior class
- Attend social event planned and organized by the program
- Attend welcome reception
- Maintain GPA in accordance with guidelines of the Scholarship
- Engage with other scholars in academic, career & social contexts
- Be a good person!
Freshman and Sophomore Year (entry year)
Potential scholarship recipients will be notified of their winning around August/September during the Freshman and Sophomore year. Once gifted/notified, these students will be asked to become a part of the Raj Reddy Scholars Program in a welcome email by Keshava/Bharathi, Tim, and Jake. In the email, we will talk about Raj, his legacy/scholarship, and the goal for the Scholars. At the Scholarship Ceremony at Ross in March, the new recipients, along with all current Scholars will meet for a lunch with the RCF Board (whichever delegates are there) team. After winning, we will create a brief bio with a photo and a quote of the winner on the RCF website and invite the students to the Raj Reddy Scholars Facebook page. Each Freshman and Sophomore recipient will be paired with a Senior mentor who is also part of the program; the mentors-mentees will be paired off by Jake and Tim based on interests and background. (Proposal: Reddy to provide $25 stipend to mentor to take mentee out to lunch)
Expectations from the Freshman and Sophomore Scholars:
- Connect with your fellow Reddy Scholars and meet your mentor
- Meet the Reddy family and some of Raj’s friends
- Keep your GPA above 3.0
- Participate in the charity and social events
Junior Year
During the Summer in between Sophomore and Junior Year, it is expected the rising Junior class of Raj Reddy Scholars will work together to plan two events for the Fall: a social event and a charity event. The social event will receive a stipend of $--- from the Raj Reddy Foundation and will be used to have a welcome back event for the Scholars where they will talk about summers, internships, jobs, help, etc. The charity event will be coordinated with a Detroit/AA charity program to perform a day of service where all members will participate. Throughout the Junior Year, the Scholars will be focusing on academics and internships. It is our hope that the Scholars will be working closely with alumni and seniors for help with these two initiatives.
Expectations from the Junior Scholars:
- Attend the new recipient event
- Keep GPA above 3.0
- Plan and help organize the charity and the social events
Senior Year
The Senior class will be in charge of coordinating a charity event and a social event. They will also be the leaders of the non-alumni scholars and be a valuable resource to younger members. As the most experienced of the Scholars, the Senior class is expected to help the Juniors with recruiting techniques/resume preparation/etc., as well as become formal mentors for the new Sophomore class.
Expectations from the Senior Scholars:
- Become a Mentor for incoming sophomore class
- Attend the new recipient event
- Help the Juniors with recruiting
- Keep GPA above 3.0
- Plan, organize and drive the charity and the social events
Scholar Program Alumni
As an alumni of the Raj Reddy Scholars Program, we hope you to stay in touch and become a resource for the current Reddy Scholars - much in the same way the Alumni did for you! We understand that you will be out in the workforce or attending grad school, but we expect you will be in touch and try to make it to one of the planned events, stay active with the group/offer help when needed, help promote the scholarship to potential candidates, and show the world what being a Raj Reddy Scholar is all about.
Expectations from the Alumni Scholars:
- Stay active and assist other members of the Scholars program
- Attend the social events
